…at the end of last year I rediscovered the joy of marmalade-cooking and I fell in love with a caramelized apple marmalade…
…but soon the jam jar in my fridge will be empty and I gave nearly all other jam jars filled with caramelized apple marmalade away to good friend and because it tastes so delicious, I decided to make more of it
…and furthermore I also tried a caramelized kiwi marmalade…
Recipe for caramelized apple marmalade:
ca. 1 kg apple for cooking
juice of 1 lemon
0,5 kg sugar
2 tablespoons brandy or Calvados
vanilla + cinnamon
Peel, core and cut the apples to small cubes – add the lemon juice to prevent the apples from getting brown (I add the juice at the start and mix the apples always after I add some new).
Put 250g sugar with 2 tablespoons water into a pot and heat it up at low heat until it cooks – cook the sugar until it gets a amber color – take the pot from the fire place and put in the small cut apples immediately and stir until all appel pieces are covered with the caramel (the caramel gets hard when the apples are added, just continue stirring and reheat the pot again – than the caramel will melt again).
Add the rest of the sugar and melt it during permanent stirring at low heat. Add some vanilla and cinnamon and heat it up slowly until it cooks again and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes until the apple pieces are very soft und a part of the liquid is gone. Put the apple mass into a plastic sifter and sweep the mass with a wooden spoon through the plastic sifter. Put the puree back into the pot and heat it up again – if it is too liquid, just cook it for some more minutes, … (I put the jam jars and their covers into cooking water with some vinegar before I put the puree back into the pot)
Take the pot from the cooking stove and stir in the alcohol – put the hot marmalade into the prepared jam jars and close them tight and let them rest over night up-side-down.
…and for the Cleo fans among my readers – I again uploaded some new pictures to Flickr
Yesterday we – Evi, Petz, Anna and I – had another very nice sewing and embroidery evening – I cooked “Erdäpfel-Gulasch” for the girls, Evi brought a great pasta salad, Petz brought some Mini-”Mozartkugeln” and Anna brought some ginger for me.
Evi had a look through the books that I bought since her last visit (some years ago), I helped Petz to develope a pattern for a woman’s hose (like the pattern my woman’s hose) and Anna learned to handsew two kinds of “A” seams…
It was a very nice evening and I am sure we will repeat it as soon as possible
Searching for a special fresco in Italy I came across Willyms pictures of “Ciclo di Mesi from the Castello del Buonconsiglo”.
Beautiful pictures!
Thank you Willym for sharing!
…and btw. here a picture of 12th century candle holders on display at the MAK here in Austria (Museum für Angewandte Kunst) – I think I haven’t posted this picture in my blog yet, but I am not sure…
Unfortunately it’s not allowed to take photos at this museum but when I saw this lovely 12th century candlesticks, I couldn’t resist to take a picture with my mobile phone…
In February and March I will start to attend a very important course for my mundane life and I am afraid that I will have less time for embroidery and other things… but hopefully the course will, if – or better to say *knock on wood* – as soon as I pass the following exam, raise my chances to get a new job
…and with a job I could also afford the money to travel to some SCA events
Ok, some time ago I started to post in English and German and now I would like to know how many of you read my postings written in German… depending on the answers I will decide if I continue or not, because it’s rather time consuming and I would rather like to embroider than to translate my own postings and to write them two times every time…
…Sybelle, a very nice young lady, had some questions concerning her German Brick Stitch embroidery and therefore I decided to invite her to an extraordinary embroidery evening – this Tuesday, at my place – we had a look through some of my books and I think we found a very good solution how she can convert and insert a Manesse picture into a German Brick Stitch frame… I am very looking forward to see her next progress.
…again new progress

Ok, I promised 8 gifts and managed to do 6 of them and already send them out – but I think I fullfilled the basic challenge because I expanded the challenge from the basic 5 gifts to 8…
I still have to do a gift for Kathy and for Jackiejaye but I was missing some stuff for the last gifts that I could finally get at the beginning of January – I think I will be able to do and send out the last gifts during the next weeks
Maybe some of you remember the pouch I made for Cooper_Oxide some time ago – now I received her ‘A Crafty Challenge’ gift – Thank you very much – I love it!
I really love this cat! She is just tooooooooo cute!
Ich liebe diese Katze! Sie ist einfach zuuuuuuuuu süß!
