…btw. you can find all photos of this project here: Anya’s Laurel Cloak :)

…I tried to get rid of the cat hairs of Cleo as good as possible and folded the cloak to a good package size… and I even found a nice box yesterday to put it in – now it is packed and wrapped and is waiting to be brought to the post :)

…and I also put the colored pearls which I got from Katharina, a friend of Anya and me, into the box on top of the cloak.
I didn’t know what to do with this colored pearls but I am quite sure that Anya will find a good place for them. :)

I really hope that Anya will like her cloak :D

…and many many many thanks to all the good friends who donated pearls for this project like:
Stella, Bridget, Katharina, Alenn & her friends, Giano and Fiona
Thank you very much!

Please excuse me if you donated pearls and can’t find yourself at this list – I am sorry but I can’t find my list anymore *sigh*

Anyas Laurel Cloak – Lining… .3 :)

DSC03829…due to my new job and a very busy life I couldn’t do a lot of embroidery during the last weeks but recently I decided to get back to my “Anya’s Laurel Cloak” project again – last time I showed you some of my work concerning the lining – “Anyas Laurel Cloak – Lining… .2” – and again I am working at the silk lining – quasi the very last steps, the “endspurt” (final spurt), before I can put the cloak into a big box and send it to her…

…ok, and here some photos – the lovely silk is sewed in and I decided to add a last small detail – a small inner border of wool to hide the not very nice looking joint of the silk and the wool at the inside straight front border… ok… just some final sewing stitches… “endspurt” …oh, I soooo love this word – it’s not only the end of an “old” project – it also sounds like the promise of a new lovely project – like the spring following a long winter… :)

…Anya really had to wait a very long time for her laurel cloak – I hope I will be able to finish her cloak and send it to her before christmas :)

Anyas Laurel Cloak – Lining… .2 :)

Back to my “Anya’s Laurel Cloak” project – DSC01318last time I showed you the linen fabric which I wanted to use for the lining

I even washed and ironed it since the last posting but while ironing the linen fabric I decided to switch to some beautiful fine silk which I was able buy some days ago – sure, the linen is beautiful, heavy and great but finally I thought that it might be to heavy for this lovely light merino wool cloak…

Ok, here some photos of the new progress :)

First I worked at the front border…

…and then at the bottom border :)

…next step: I have to find my leftovers of the pre-washed wool because I need a stripe of the red merino wool to cover the inner seam part of the front seam… :)

Anyas Laurel Cloak – Lining… :)

DSC06507Ok, I think this was enough rest concerning the ‘Anya’s Laurel Cloak’ project – after the last pearl embroidery I really couldn’t see any pearls and russian pearl embroidery without a shiver…

…but yesterday, after some fun projects and because it’s christmas time, I decided that I had enough rest and I took the cloak out of my lovely box in which I store it… :)

I decided to take some linen for the lining because Anya should be able to wear the cloak at events – inside in the rooms and outside – and I thought the linen would be the best solution, especially because of its surface – it should help to prevent the cloak to slip from her shoulders.

Therefore I took my bale of white linen  and I rolled off some meters (it’s still folded) – to really get sure that I have enough of the lining I opened the cloak and laid it on top of the white linen and adding some additional length, I cut off some of the fabric from the bale. :)

…next step: I will wash the fabric in my washing machine, dry it and iron it and then I will be able to continue :)

…btw. it seems that the linen is not wide enough, but that’s not a serious problem – I will just add some fabric at the bottom. :)

Anya’s cloak – border finished & last pearl embroidery

DSC09025DSC09034

I just finished the very last pearl embroidery for Anya’s cloak – I hope she likes it. The very last pearl embroidery is inspired by a detail of the “Pearl-embroidered yoke of a phelonion, 15th century” (page 12 – book: Russian Embroidery and Lace).

Here some photos of the progress concerning the front hem of the cloak:

Anya’s cloak – working at the border .3

DSC05165DSC05168

…new progress concerning Anya’s cloak – the pattern at the front hem is finally finished! yeah! :)
I think the pattern would get lost at the bottom hem and furthermore I don’t have enough pearls for all the pearl roundels that I would need for this pattern – therefore I decided not to continue the pattern at the bottom hem.

I was a little bit concerned because this is a half circle cloak, but the embroidery adds some weight to the front and the cloak stays good at the shoulders without pulling back all the time. The embroidered roundels at the bottom hem also add some additional weight to the border and therefore add some extra movement to the bottom border – similar to the effect you can achieve if you put small lead balls into the bottom hem of a skirt…

Concerning the lining – silk would be great but at the moment I can’t afford the price for good silk and Anya has no problem with a linen lining for her cloak – I think I will take the cloak with me to a fabric store and try out some different colors – yellow, orange, green,…
I think that a linen lining also has another advantage – it’s less slippery than a silk lining and I think the cloak will be more comfortable to wear :)
