my red 12th century silk dress

…because I know that there are still many people without a facebook account, I thought it might be nice to add a picture of my finished 12th century dress here too – I really like the final result …and many thanks to my friend Gloria who took this picture of my lord and me.

Btw. you can find many progress pics of this dress and the embroidery at my facebook page - “12th century silk dress project :) ” -

…working at my new silk underdress – hand sewing :)

Wien-20120408-00245_1…the beautiful fabric for my new silk underdress :)

Wien-20120408-00246_1…I ironed the silk to get it flat enough to be able to cut and sew it :)

Wien-20120409-00247_1…based on 1/2 of the measurement around my breast + some seam allowance I cut out a strip of fabric 2 times the hight from the ground to my shoulders + some extra length…
…here I add a thread line at the middle of the fabric to mark the shoulder seam, to make the insertion of the sleeves easier and also to know where I have to cut out the neck opening…

Wien-20120409-00248_1…based on my arm measurements + ca. 20cm surplus in length because of the kind of fabric I made a sleeve pattern and cut out the sleeves…
…and a small gore for the arm pit…

Wien-20120409-00249_1…handsewing my sleeves – here I insert the gore for the armpit – I use white silk thread to sew my white silk fabric :)
