I just added my needlelace necklace and needlelace ring to my ArtFire shop:
btw. if someone of you is interested into the necklace or the ring but can’t afford the prize – I am also always open for trading if you can offer me something interesting
I had some wool left after my “Winter Pumpkin” hood project and therefore I thought it would be nice to practise my nailbinding a little bit
…I just wanted to make one mitten and embroider it and now, because I like it very much, I think about buying more wool and make another one… (and of course, to embroider both
)…
…this mitten is rather close – maybe I give this one to a good friend of mine who has smaller hands and make a pair for myself in a different color
I have to admit – I did it again *lol* – another nailbinding try
I had some of this lovely wool – Lana Grossa “Baby Alpaca” – 70% Virgin Wool Merino extrafine & 30% Baby Alpaca – left from my very first nailbinding project “Embroidered Nailbinding Hood” and I thought I should try to memorize the technique by working at another nailbinding project…
It looks like a pumpkin and I thought it would be funny to add two small leaves in the middle – now I have my very own cute and cosy “Winter Pumpkin”
Caution: Nailbinding is quite addictive!
I think Elisande is right, I should try to sell my first nailbinding project at my artfire shop, especially because I have to renew my SCA-membership for another 3 years – the prize of this hood covers another 3 years of SCA membership – therefore my third item on sale at artfire.com – “Racaire’s embroidery & needlework“ ![]()
…and here the progress of my very first nailbinding try
…and yes, it’s embroidered *lol*…
…maybe I will also embroider the bottom…
I think I am prepared for next Winter time…
Many thanks to Kareina, who showed and tought us the Finnish Nailbinding technique last weekend at our Project / sewing / nailbinding / embroidery… evening.

Yesterday I bought some lovely ‘Baby Alpaca’ wool and while Kareina stayed with a friend of mine and attended a congress on weekdays, I tried to start my own nailbinding project. I have to admit that I had some troubles with the very first beginning – I think I had to start about 10times before it looked like something I could use and before I could recognize it as nailbinding… *lol*
…also starting the next layer was quite tricky and I had to start a second time. The pictures I took of Kareinas nailbinding were very helpful – you can find the folder with this pictures on my Flickr account here: Kareina’s Nailbinding.
What you can see on the pictures here is my yesterdays progress – I made some small mistakes and it looks like I am doing another variation of her Finnish stitch by accident – but as soon as I finish the turn I am working at now, I will try to continue with Kareina’s technique – I just have to start with another combination of two loops of the existing nailbinding
…I am very nosy about how the two variations look like in direct comparison
Todays project/sewing/nailbinding/embroidery evening was a lot of fun – Doris brought some spinach-feta-strudel and a garlic-souce – next time we should maybe talk about what we want to cook because unfortunately I also made a spinach-feta-strudel and some Tsaziki *lol* – Livia and Anna also managed to come and in the end everyone enjoyed the spinach-feta-strudel
I searched my books for pictures of sleeves with dagging for Doris, Kareina teached us Nailbinding, Doris had a look into some of my books,… and most important – we had a lot of fun – and that’s how an evening like this should be ![]()
I think Anna was the one of us who understood the Finnish Nailbinding technique which Kareina teached us best and unfortunately for her she will have to practise now and teach us this technique when Kareina is back home in Milano
Such a great evening – I very enjoyed it
…you want to see a pic of my first tries of Nailbinding? No chance! Destroyed! Look awful!
