Finally I managed to have a look through the last photos taken at the “Kunsthistorisches Museum” on the last day of Kareinas stay here in Vienna.
I uploaded the best (704) photos – btw. you can find all (old & new) photos taken at the “Kunsthistorisches Museum” – in this Flickr folder: Austria, Vienna – KHM / Kunsthistorisches Museum.
…and here a really rather small selection of the photos taken at the “Kunsthistorisches Museum”:
Again I would like to remind you on my posting SCA visit – Kareina – 1.966 photos in 2 days!!!
“…This weekend we managed to visit the Schatzkammer (treasury), the museums located at the “Neue Burg” (Ephesos Museum, Collection of Arms and Armour and the Collection of Ancient Musical Instruments) and also the Kunsthistorisches Museum.…”
Today I uploaded the last photos taken at the “Neue Burg” on Saturday – some additional photos taken at the “Collection of Arms and Armour”, some photos taken at the Collection of Ancient Musical Instruments, and last but not least photos taken at the Ephesos Museum.
You can find my Flickr Folders with the (new and also some old) museum photos here:

Let’s start with a small selection of the additional photos of the “Collection of Arms and Armour”:
Kareina proudly presents the – in her opinion – most interesting part of the whole collection
…and some photos taken at the Collection of Ancient Musical Instruments:
…and finally some photos taken at the Ephesos Museum:
Maybe some of you remember my posting SCA visit – Kareina – 1.966 photos in 2 days!!!

After the treasury we also visited the museums located at the “Neue Burg” – here a small selection of the photos taken at the “Hofjagd- und Rüstkammer” / “Collection of Arms and Armour” – you can find all photos taken at the “Collection of Arms and Armour” here: Austria, Vienna – KHM – Neue Burg – Hofjagd- und Rüstkammer.
Part II – other lovely items:
I was very happy to find some lovely items, which were on display at the “Karl der Kühne” / “Charles the Bold” exhibition, back home – especially because it was not allowed to take photos at the “Karl der Kühne” exhibition – therefore I took about double as many photos as I normally would have…
“Jagdtasche, Süddeutsch, um 1430″ / Jagd=hunt , Tasche=bag, south Germany, about 1430 – btw. you can see one of the detail photos on top of this posting.
…here some of the lovely details of this bag:
“Prunksattel, Süddeutsch, um 1455″ / Prunk=parade/splendour, Sattel=saddle, south Germany, about 1455.
“Prunksattel, Südostdeutsch 1438-1439″ / Prunk=parade/splendour, Sattel=saddle, south east Germany, 1438-1439.
…and I love dragons
“Gürteltasche, Süddeutsch, um 1550″ / Gürtel=belt/girdle, Tasche=bag, south Germany, about 1550.
“Federspiel, Süddeutsch, um 1550″ / Feder=feather, Spiel=game, south Germany, about 1550.
“Trinkflasche, Türkisch, 1581″ / Trink=(to) drink, Flasche=bottle, Turkish, 1581.

Part I – armour:
Kareina stayed for about 10days in Vienna – unfortunately for me she is already back home in Milano again. During her second weekend here we visited the “Schatzkammer” (treasury).
I think I have taken already many photos at the “Schatzkammer” but every time I visit this or other museums again I can’t resist and have to take more photos and this weekend I really took many photos – 1966 photos! *lol*
Especially many more detail photos of the 12th to 15th century items on display. …and because some time ago a nice lady from the 12th century mailing list asked me to take more photos of the blue Alba because she would love to do some research for a new garb project, I took many detail photos of it – especially of the gores and every detail that looked very interesting. I enjoyed it very much to discuss the blue and white Alba and its “mistakes” with Kareina and we found quite a few…
…btw. you can find my complete collection of photos taken at the “Schatzkammer” in this Flickr folder: Austria, Vienna – Treasury / Schatzkammer – here just a “small” selection of my pictures:
…btw. this here are copies/reproductions from the 18th century:

…and here the beautiful original items on display:

…and some detail photos of the blue Alba – gore detail on the right side:

…and more detail photos of the beautiful cloak:

…and more pictures of my favourite 11th-12th century pouch:

…and many more other photos…
On Sunday we managed to visit following museums/exhibitions: “Wien Museum Karlsplatz”, “Römermuseum” & “Neidhart Fresken” – they all belong to the “Wien Museum”. The Wien Museum offers free entry for all visitors at every first Sunday of the month. ![]()
…btw. you can find all my old and new photos taken at the “Wien Museum Karlsplatz” at my Flickr account: “Austria, Vienna – Wien Museum” .
Ok, let’s start with the photos taken at the “Wien Museum Karlsplatz” – here another possibility to have a nice view over Vienna

…and after the Wien Museum we had a short break and lunch at the “Resselpark” next to the museum and also to the “Karlskirche”:

…and Kareina was very kind and showed me again how the Nailbinding techniques work, which she uses for her hood – I think it’s the Finnish one…:
We enjoyed the beautiful colors of the flowers…

photos part II:
I have to admit that I don’t like churches very much and that I entered the Stephansdom through this entrance for the first time – normally I just take a short view inside (through the main entrance), but on Sunday we had a longer view around at the inside of the Stephansdom and discovered some nice things…
…btw. you can find all my photos taken at the Stephansdom here in Vienna (outside and inside) here:

photos part III:
…and still on the way to the “Römermuseum” – unfortunately the “Dommuseum” was closed this weekend – I showed her also the house with the cow and the Basilisk
…and then we visited the “Römermuseum” – btw. you can find all my old and new photos taken at this museum here:
Austria, Vienna – Wien Museum – Roman times – Römermuseum – 1010 Wien, Hoher Markt 3
…and they had also following things on display – found in a filling of a ‘latrine’ from about the 1st half of the 16th century – a small room with small changing exhibitions at the top floor of this museum:
Finally we visited also the “Neidhart Fresken” – btw. you can find all my old and new photos taken at this museum here:

I just uploaded all pictures taken on Friday and Saturday to my Flickr account. Unfortunately it’s still not allowed to take photos at the MAK (Museum für Angewandte Kunst), therefore no new museum pics for friday and saturday, but I hope you will enjoy the other photos I took
…beautiful blossoms and flowers found in the “Stadtpark”:
…and here the famous Stephansdom:
…and we climbed up more than 300 steps to get to the top room of the tower:
…just to take some pictures of Vienna
…but, yes, there is also a time to leave the tower again and
fight the tourists who try to climb up the tower ![]()
(the higher you get, the less space you have…)
…Kareina wanted to climb up to the top of the tower but unfortunately it wasn’t possible:
I like also this two pics taken at the way down:
…and just to prove it – 343 steps!!!!
…and that’s the tower we climbed up:

pictures part II:
…and this time I managed to take more pictures of the Stephansdom – at the outside:
…and of the beautiful front portal:
…and we also went inside and took a look around
(more pictures of inside the Stephansdom will follow soon -
I took some additional pictures today):
We also visited the excavation at the ‘Michaelerplatz’ and the ‘Michaelerkirche’ – I think this here looks like a devil, doesn’t it? …unfortunately it’s better to see without the light shining on it
…and we also listened to a concert at a ‘Kaffeehaus’ in the inner city:
…sitting outside, enjoying the warm weather:
…and I just like this photo – a look into a ‘Kaffeehaus’
I am very happy that a conference here in Vienna gave me the great possibility to meet Maisteri Kareina Talvi Tytar in real life. She is a SCA-member and recently moved from Tasmania to Milan (Italy, Europe -> Drachenwald).
I met Kareina at the 12th century mailing-list – she was the nice lady who helped me with my 12th century dress with the gathered body part – we discussed some of the major problems of this project via eMail.
…btw. this is her blog at livejournal
Friday morning she arrived and I met her at the CAT / City Airport Train terminal here in Vienna – we left her luggage at my flat and with Anna and Livia, two friends of mine, we continued with fabric shopping at a fabric outlet in Kritzendorf, near Vienna, and yes, finally we left with many bags full with fabric…
Back home we had dinner and a great evening – she even tried on two of my dresses and she really looks gorgeous in my white woolen dress – unfortunately we only took pics of her while she tried on my blue 12th century dress with gathered body part but hopefully we will make some soon
Today we visited the MAK, enjoyed the sun and the beautiful flowers and blossoms in the ‘Stadtpark’, had some cake at an original Viennese ‘Kaffeehaus’ (and yes, I also had some coffee), I showed her the lovely medieval wallpaintings in the ‘Michaelerkirche’ and the excavation area at the ‘Michaelerplatz’,… and we had a very nice walk through the inner city, enjoyed a live concert of classical music at another ‘Kaffeehaus’…
…and not to forget, today we also visited the “Stephansdom” and climbed more than 300 steps to nearly the top of its tower to have a nice view over Vienna
…more pics will follow soon
…btw. here Kareinas posting about her first days in Vienna
Today Elsa (a SCA member from Germany), Anna (a friend of mine) and I visited the Intarsia exhibition on display at the “Österr. Museum für Volkskunde / Wien” – btw. tomorrow is the last day of this special exhibition on display here in Vienna…
And a very nice lady of the museum allowed me to take pictues of this lovely embroidered Woollen Tapestry and I took many many photos – you can find them >uploaded to my Flickr account < …
The weather was quite warm and sunny today and therefore we decided to go for a walk in the garden of the ‘Schloß Schönbrunn’.
The wind was rather cold but we very enjoyed the sun and the fresh air
…and again I took some photos…
…btw. my Valentine’s Day was great – we took a walk through the snow-covered ‘Schönbrunn’ and the “Tiergarten Schönbrunn / Vienna Zoo” and I took some nice pictures
…and afterwards we had our Valentine’s dinner at the Brandauer’s Schloßbräu and we had two ‘Wiener Schnitzel’ – to bad that they moved the non-smoking area to another section with more tables but with less ambience
…and my Valentin’s Day presents are:
Thank you sweety!
…and also a big thank you to my friend Tristan who pointed me to this great booklet in his posting ‘Blue, white & gold purse finished!’ – if you don’t know his blog and work by now you should really visit his blog “Taschen”!
